Studio Dynamics within the EDI

by Student on March 5, 2012

The EDI Studio is a dynamic one, which brings together people from various disciplines and allows for exchange of ideas through inividual and group work. This centralized design studio operates mainly from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn Campus and uses RAA’s Culture and Media Lab as an extended facility. The studio allows for collaborative exchange with professionals from various fields including landscape design, graphics design, exhibition design, etc. These collaborations inform our designs and give us a broader perspective and feedback for our design solutions.

At the EDI studio we focus on developing a narrative based design for creating an immersive user experience. We strive to achieve this by working in close partnership with the end users and management. As we are advancing towards the final stages of The Parks for People Competition we are working closely with the staff of Hopewell Furnace and the National Park Services. They remain our partners in the design process as we rely on them to enlighten us not only on the various assets of the Park but also on the challenges and visions they have for Hopewell Furnace and the National Parks in general. On February 11, we visited Hopewell Furnace and met with the staff, Edie Shean-Hammond, Superintendent; Becky Ross, Cultural Resource Manager; Kate Jensen, Natural Resource Manager; and Frances Delmar, Chief of Education and Interpretation.

We also have a formal structure for The Parks for People Project. We have desk critiques every week and reviews & critiques with an interdisciplinary jury of academics and professionals. We also have mid term reviews which involve presentations and discussions that will measure the progess of the project and also aid in setting up further direction for the Projects.
