Concept

Our research and site visits led us to formulate a concept for the new park. We began by thinking from the visitor’s perspective and making comparisons to the existing park experiences. Our concern starts from the moment the visitors arrive at the park to when they depart. We divided the entire park experience into four sections in the order of: Decompression, Intrigue, Exploration and Resolution.

Beginning from the Decompression Zone, this is the visitor’s moment of arrival. The Intrigue entices them with what the park has to offer. The Exploration Zone encompasses the three trails which are: Historic, Ingenuity and Landscape. each trail explores a different narrative about the park. The Resolution Zone is spread throughout the park and gives the visitors an oppurtunity to share their experiences and give back to the park.

Some of the narratives we have explored include: Women’s role in Hopewell,  iron trade in Africa, functioning of the furnace and the entry of American Rococo art into Hopewell.
