Process sketches

We made many sketches to depict our ideas of using exaggerated scale to create interest. We decided to go with the script of the performance and created an over all scene of the forest from Alice in Wonderland, this scene is intented to be modified for the first and the third act through use of props and effects. For example the forest scene will be turned to underwater scene by blue lighting effect that accentuates the grass and plant life. Props could be added as needed to highlight characters from the songs for each act.

Creating DEPTH : The above scene uses the existing panels available at the site to create depth by using a technique of forced perspective.

Using SCALE: The above sketch shows another option for scenery which uses exaggerated elements to create visual interest.

The OVERALL  grand forest theme: Along with the actual stage the outer surfaces are also layered to create a cohesive whole. The wooden stage front is made a part of the stage and is covered with hedges to blend into the forest scene.

Ideas for PROPS : Individual elements like chairs, teapots, cup and saucers can be added as props for certain acts.
